IRIS privacy

IRIS listens to conversations, so this page has to be specific rather than reassuring. Below is what leaves your phone, what is kept, where it is kept, and how to get rid of it.

Where IRIS actually runs

The IRIS app runs on your phone. Your Even G2 glasses are a display and a set of gestures — they do not process or store your conversations. Audio is captured by the glasses' microphone or your phone's, depending on what you choose.

What stays on your phone

By default, the things you would most expect to be private are stored on your device and are not copied to us:

Session transcripts and summaries
Saved memories, people and to-dos
Your modes, their behavior text and their reference documents
Prep notes and prep files
Voiceprints used to recognise speakers

Deleting a session on your phone deletes it. There is no copy of it on our side to delete as well, unless you turned on one of the things in the next two sections.

What passes through our servers

To generate a cue, answer a question, transcribe speech or search the web, data has to leave your phone. It travels through a server we operate, which forwards it to the provider that does the work and returns the result:

Audio is streamed for speech-to-text while a session is running.
A short vocabulary list travels with that audio so the names and terms you actually use are not transcribed phonetically: the names in your Voice ID library, and when you dictate to Ask or Terminal also your mode names, your connected agent’s name and the titles of your saved memories. Not the notes inside a memory, not your transcripts, not your “About you” profile — and nothing belonging to a mode you keep private.
Recent transcript, along with the relevant parts of your mode documents, prep files and saved memories, is sent when a cue, summary, or answer is generated.
Search queries are sent when IRIS looks something up. The query is built from what was said.
Computer audio (Pro). If you run the browser extension on your computer, the sound of the one tab you pressed Start on is streamed to us for speech-to-text and the resulting text is passed to your phone, held on the way for at most about fifteen minutes and then deleted. If you press “Send this screen to my glasses”, a still image of that tab is sent so it can be read; it is deleted once your glasses collect it, and in any case within ten minutes. Nothing is captured until you press one of those two buttons, and only from the tab you pressed it on.

We pass this through rather than collect it: it is not written to our database, and it is not used to train anything.

Say this plainly: if you record a confidential conversation, its audio and text are transmitted to and processed by third-party AI and speech providers. That is how the product works. If a conversation must never leave the room, do not record it — or use Live captions, which runs without AI and without sending anything for cue generation.

The same applies to anything you bring in through the browser extension. A call, a lecture, a video or a screen you send is audio and text leaving your computer for the same providers. If it must not leave the room, do not press Start.

The providers doing that work fall into three groups: speech-to-text providers, AI model providers, and web search providers. Each receives only what the request it answers needs — a search provider gets a query, not your transcript. We do not sell your data, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not use your conversations to train anything of our own. What each provider may do with what it receives is governed by its own terms; we use their paid business tiers rather than consumer ones. If you need to know exactly who they are before you record something sensitive, email us and we will tell you.

What we store, and for how long

Your licence and subscription. Your email address, subscription identifier and plan status, kept for as long as you are a customer and afterwards as required for tax and accounting.
Session recordings (Pro, off by default). If you switch on recordings, the audio is stored in our storage and listed in the Recordings tab. It stays until you delete it. We do not delete it on a schedule and we do not currently impose a size limit, so assume it stays until you remove it — including after you cancel. If you want everything removed, ask us and we will do it.
Backups (off by default). If you switch on backup, your sessions, memories and settings are copied to our storage, retrievable only with your licence key. It stays until you turn backup off or ask us to delete it. As with recordings, there is no automatic expiry: it stays until you remove it, including after you cancel.
Diagnostics. Event names, counts, timings and an anonymous install identifier. Never transcript, cue or chat text, never your email, never your licence key. Raw records are discarded after 90 days; only anonymous daily totals are kept beyond that. You can switch diagnostics off in Settings.

Other people in the conversation

IRIS records people who have not agreed to anything. That is your responsibility, not ours, and in many places it is a legal one: recording laws differ by country and by state, and some require every participant to consent. Tell people they are being recorded.

If you enrol someone's voice so IRIS can recognise them, get their agreement first. A voiceprint is biometric data in several jurisdictions, including the EU and parts of the United States, and carries stricter rules than an ordinary recording.

Things you connect yourself

Obsidian, Google Drive, Google Tasks, Raindrop and your calendar feeds are connections you authorise, and IRIS writes to them on your instruction. What happens to your data once it arrives there is governed by that service, not by this page.

If you connect your own agent, the address and key you enter are sent with each request and are not stored on our servers. What you send to your agent is then held by your agent, under whatever rules you run it by.

Payment

Subscriptions are handled by PayPal. We never see or hold your card details. We receive the subscription identifier, its status, and the email address on the account, which is where your licence key is sent.

Your choices

Turn things off. Recordings, backup and diagnostics are each off by default and each independently switchable in Settings.
Use Live captions for a session that should involve no AI at all.
Delete. Sessions, memories and recordings can be deleted in the app. To have anything on our side deleted — your backup, your recordings, your licence record — email us and we will do it.
Ask what we hold. Email us and we will tell you, and send you a copy.

If you are in the EU or the UK, the GDPR gives you the right to a copy of what we hold about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, and to complain to your national data protection authority. If you are in California, you may ask what we collect and ask us to delete it; we do not sell personal information. If you are in Brazil, the LGPD gives you equivalent rights. You do not need to cite any of this to us — just ask, and we will do it. We will not charge you for it or make it difficult.

Children

IRIS is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly hold data about children.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that affects what we do with your data, we will update the date at the top and tell subscribers by email. We will not quietly widen it.
